Continuing on our Christmas / Holiday theme, this week with 8 funny and very commonly used French idioms you can practice on your Christmas parties! This might mean you’ll have to share this new knowledge with the people accompanying you! Your turn to teach!
To make sure we are all on the same page, here are 2 examples of English idioms:
When pigs fly.
It’s raining cats and dogs.
As a French person learning English, there was a time in my life where I understood “it’s raining” and also “cats and dogs” but had no idea what people meant when they were saying “It’s raining cats and dogs” as, thank God for us and the poor animals, it was not. Idioms are like secret codes that mostly only natives know. So when you know one, say one, understand one overhearing a conversation, you feel so incredibly cool! Am I right?
That’s why I want to share some with you today. I tried to keep them as holiday focused as possible but obviously you can use them all year long.
Did you know some of the idioms? Which one is your favorite? Which idiom will you be using at your Christmas party?
You can tell me in the comments and you can also tell me in person on December 4th!
