Ask Molière! He will tell you!
But before he does, have you ever heard of him? Molière is our French Shakespeare! One of the greatest Masters of Comedy in Western Literature and certainly one of the greatest authors of the French tradition!
17th century playwright, actor, and troupe director, his hilarious comedies made a lot of people angry as they pitilessly mocked and accused the Aristocracy, the Bourgeoisie, the Clergy, and the physicians! Good job he was Louis XIV’s protégé!
So back to our original question! Here is Molière’s answer: “Writing is like prostitution. First you do it for love, then for a few closed friends, and then for money.”
Ha! I love a man who can make me laugh!!!
If you want to hear more of him, come to the French Movie Night this Friday October 25th!
There will be a presentation about his incredible life and work, a fun and romantic movie about him, then we will all share impressions and have a nice Q&A session with French cheese and wine! Fantastique, non?
