Summer French Book Club… by the sea (beginner)

Do you want to improve your French conversational skills in a small & friendly group setting while becoming more aware of the French culture? J’ai la solution pour vous : join the online French Book Club avec moi and other beginner level students to read, discuss, and converse weekly together on Zoom!

I had to put the French Book Clubs on hold for a few months so I could host my French Immersion Groups and take my annual university exams but yay youpi woohoo French Book Clubs are coming back and I’m so eager to exchange live with you all again!

Et voici mon idée pour cet été : a sweet and poetic story that takes place by the sea written by a French Literature Nobel Prize winner but oh non don’t worry! It was written for children age 9 + meaning it’s beautifully written mais facile à comprendre. The best of both worlds, n’est-ce pas?

How does it work?

Every week, I send you homework to help you prepare for our following meeting. Homework to help you understand important details you might otherwise have missed, but also to allow you to go deeper into the story, deeper into the ideas, how they relate to reality, to our everyday lives. A thought provoking book is a perfect way to trigger dynamic conversations. There are only 8 students at a time in each group so we all have plenty of time to express ourselves in one hour and a half. Of course, books, homework, and conversation levels are adapted to each group so you never have to worry it’s going to be trop difficile. Challenging, oui. Discouraging, non.

  1. A series of 4 classes

  2. Spread out over 4 weeks

  3. Each class will last 1.5 hours

  4. I will divide our book into 4 parts, each part corresponding to 1 class

  5. The PDF version of the book is provided

  6. Weekly homework to help you throughout the whole book

J.M.G. Le Clézio was born à Nice dans le sud de la France au bord de la mer, which is why the sea is so present in his work. As mentioned above, he won the Literature Nobel Prize yet you needn’t worry about not understanding because it was written for children age 9 + meaning it’s beautifully written mais facile à comprendre. A sweet, poetic, refreshing story about the connection between a young girl and the sea. Click HERE to read more about the author.
